Boxers are known for being an incredible family breed but there are other things to consider when purchasing a boxer. The boxer is a member of the working group and was originally considered a hunting dog. What does that mean to it's new family? First that the boxer requires a lot of exercise. Therefore you need to consider your living arrangements. Will your boxer get the activity it needs to utilize that energy? If not your home may end up bearing the brunt of that energy. The boxer is considered a low maintenance breed. They require very little grooming but they do shed. Nails need to be done on a regular basis. Dental care is also sometimes necessary.
The boxer breed does suffer from many health conditions including but not limited to: Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), cancer and heart disease. That's why it is important to buy from a reputable breeder that performs health screens before breeding.
